Sec. 96.48 . . . Preparation and training of prospective
adoptive parent(s) in incoming cases. For those
completing international adoptions from Hague countries,
this workshop accounts for six (6) certified
Hague Adoption Education hours. Upon completion of
the workshop and submission of the evaluation form, you
will receive a certificate issued by Dillon
International confirming your adoption education
credits.
We are
glad that you have chosen adoption as a means to build your
family and believe that international adoption can be a wonderful
experience for you and your family. Our day long
pre-adoption workshops are designed to prepare adoptive families
for each aspect of their adoption journey.
Some of the areas covered in Dillon International's pre-adoption
workshop are:
adoption process
country requirements
dossier preparation
the home study
initial adjustments after your child's arrival home
telling the adoption story to your child
blending birth and adopted children
dealing with societal issues and questions
pertinent to adoption
importance of post-adoption support and
heritage awareness events
Dillon International understands that
the key to a successful adoption lies in education and how well
an adoptive family is prepared during the process.
Adoptive families will receive the following benefits from
attending one of our pre-adoption workshops:
An
opportunity to meet Dillon staff members, to ask questions
face-to-face and to get a personal “feel for our agency"
To
hear first-hand from other Dillon adoptive families about
their adoption experience and to meet their children
To
learn details about the process for each country in which
Dillon works and to receive instruction on completing much
of the required paperwork
An
opportunity to discover how important Dillon’s post-adoption
services are for adoptees in building a strong sense of
"self" and positive relationships with their adoptive
families
A
chance to discuss some of the issues related to
international adoption including blending your child’s
culture into current family traditions, dealing with
community & family reactions and how to create support, and
talking to your child about adoption
Ability to
fulfill the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' (USCIS)
requirement that all adoptive families receive pre-adoption
counseling prior to adopting a child.
Dillon's Pre-Adoption Workshop is offered
multiple times during the year in several centrally-located
cities including Little Rock, AR; St. Louis, MO; Wichita, KS;
Dallas, TX; Tulsa, OK; and Tustin in Orange County, CA..
Families living in these
states are required to attend this workshop prior to beginning
their home study.
For families living outside of these specific states
who may be unable to attend the workshop in person because of
distance, we offer an
online pre-adoption workshop.
From I-430, take the Colonel Glenn exit (Exit 4) and go west on
Colonel Glenn Road. Turn right onto South Bowman Road.
Drive approximately 0.7 miles. Turn right onto 36th Street.
The Church at Rock Creek will be on your left.
Take #5 Freeway. Exit Tustin Ranch Road and go east.
Left at Irvine Blvd. Pass Newport Blvd. intersection.
Look for sign about 1/3 mile down on right and enter into driveway
just before sign. Parking is available at rear of building.
Take US 54 West (also known
as Kellogg) and take the Tyler Road exit and go North. Look for
the church on the east side of Tyler Road after crossing the Tyler and
Central Avenue intersection.
From I-435 (also known as HWY 50)
take the Metcalf exit and go south approximately 2 miles. St. Luke’s
South Hospital is on the southeast corner of 123rd &
Metcalf. Enter the hospital’s main entrance and inquire at the
information desk for directions to the Wellness Conference Room, which
is on the main floor down a hallway left of the information desk.
Exit Hwy 270 at Olive Blvd. Go
west on Olive Blvd. approximately 2 miles to Fernview Street.
Turn left on Fernview. The church is on southwest corner of
Olive and Fernview.
From I-35 South, take the
Robinson Street exit. Go east on Robinson approximately 2 miles
to Peters Street. Turn right and go south on Peters Street
approximately 3 blocks. Church will be on the left-hand side of
street. Enter door near the Fellowship Hall entrance on the
northeast side of building.
From I-44 East,
take Harvard Avenue exit. From exit ramp, turn left at stop
light onto 51st Street and go east to the intersection of
51st and Harvard Avenue. Turn left onto Harvard Avenue and
go north to 31st Street. Turn left onto 31st Street and go
west approximately 1/2 block. Agency will be on the right
in two-story gray building with maroon awnings. From I-44 West,
take Harvard Avenue exit and go north on Harvard to 31st
Street. Turn left and go west approximately 1/2 block to
agency. Agency will be on the right in two-story gray
building with maroon awnings.
From I-30, go
south on Collins (Rt. 157). Turn west on Division (Rt. 180).
Church is on the northeast corner of Center and Division. From
I-20, go north on Cooper (Rt. 157), turn east on Division (Rt. 180).
Enter Family Life Center and look for Room 155.
