What's are BlogAdvies?
Blogging -- or weblogging - is increasing in popularity on the world wide web as a means to journal one's thoughts, communicate and share ideas with others, and advocate for specific causes.  BlogAdvies are simply bloggers who advocate for something -- a cause, an organization, a goal, or a special project -- and invite others to join with them.  As an adoptive family, your words have the power to influence others to become involved in meeting the needs of homeless children who are hurting and unloved in this world.

We are seeking Dillon adoptive families and friends to become Dillon "BlogAdvies" or blog advocates on behalf of children in need and the services that Dillon/orphanCare International provides to care for children around the world.

How do I get started?
Below are various ways that you can get involved as a blogAdvie for Dillon and/or orphanCare International.  You can choose to do a few of the suggestions or all of them.  It is up to you!
  1. Add a link to Dillon's website -- www.dillonadopt.com
  2. Add a link to Dillon's orphan care website -- www.orphancareintl.org
  3. Add a banner or "widget" to your blog that has been specially designed for our BlogAdvies to raise awareness about the needs of homeless children.  Contact Dillon's webmaster for the widget.
  4. Add a "donate now" button along with the orphanCare International logo to encourage visitors to your blog to join our cause of making a positive difference in children's lives
  5. Allow Dillon's webmaster to place a link to your blog on "Dillon's Hope for Children" blog
  6. Add a post about Dillon and/or orphanCare International along with a link within your post back to Dillon or orphanCare's website.  You can write about:
  • about your family's adoption experience with Dillon
  • about your experience as a donor to Dillon/orphanCare
  • about Dillon's adoption services in general
about our pre-adoption education or parenting education
  • about Dillon's heritage camps
  • about Dillon's birthland tours
  • about orphanCare's child sponsorship program
  • or about something not listed already

REMEMBER:  Doing any of the above suggestions will increase our visibility on the world wide web and allow others to learn about children still waiting to be adopted as well as how they can become involved in Dillon's orphanCare mission to combat poverty, starvation, illiteracy and sickness affecting thousands of children and their families worldwide.

What if I Don't Have a Blog?

If you don't have a blog but would like to create one so that you can advocate on Dillon/orphanCare's behalf, setting one up is very easy to do by following a blog service's step-by-step instructions.  We've listed a few of our favorite blog sites below, which are free or almost free, to help get you started:

www.blogger.com
www.wordpress.com
www.easyjournal.com

www.livejournal.com
www.typepad.com

www.Yahoo360.com

Together we'll change the world for the millions of children whose hurt goes unnoticed and needs still go unmet!

What others ways can I  advocate for children?
1.  Journal on an on-going basis about the needs of children in the orphanages or a special project that Dillon/orphanCare International is underwriting to improve the lives of the children
  • If interested in posting on an on-going basis about Dillon's humanitarian aid projects, please email Dillon's webmaster so that you can receive new topics on a regular basis to blog about.

2.  Be sure to add photos and videos to showcase your story in pictures or advocate for a special project or child sponsorship with Dillon's orphanCare International

3.  Link your blog to articles or projects of interest to your readers on Dillon's and/or orphanCare's website

4.  Share information on how your blog readers can get involved, such as:

  • by donating to Dillon's Building Families Fund to help other families to adopt
  • by sponsoring a child or specific project on orphanCare's website
  • by advocating on the needs of children worldwide

A Few Rules for the Road
We thought here was a good place to share a few tips to keep your blogging experience fun and fruitful.
  • Update your blog regularly so that people will continue to check back for new postings.
  • Keep entries short, but personable.
  • Be open and passionate about your adoption story or experience as a child advocate, but don't share very personal and/or sensitive information about yourself or your family.  Using first names only or aliases for your children along with disclosing only the state in which you live is a good rule of thumb.   Remember many "strangers" will also be reading and commenting on your blog.
  • Keep your blog lively and your readers coming back for more with a variety of postings that include photos, videos, links to articles, websites, etc.
  • As you advocate on behalf of children in need, be educational but not preachy or overbearing in your message.
  • Share your blog address with family and friends and encourage them to invite their friends to read your blog too!
  • SPECIAL NOTE TO FAMILIES IN PROCESS:  We welcome being added to the "Favorite Links" section on your blog, but ask that you contact Dillon's webmaster regarding further involvement as an "Advie" ONLY after your adoption process has been completed.  We also recommend that all adoptive families-in-process have their blogs password-protected in order to protect their future child and the family's anonymity.
